"For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety...

Welcome back to Providence 365; I (Barbara) am so glad you're here.

This past Monday could have been a truly horrible day in our family.

My daughter-in-law was in an accident, with her two little ones in the car. She was driving down to our house for the afternoon, about 45 minutes' drive on the freeway here in the LA area. Apparently, the car next to her decided to merge into the space her car was occupying, not once but twice. Honking made no difference, so she swerved to avoid a collision, over-corrected, her tires got caught on the shoulder, the car spun around, and she ended up backwards, colliding with a tree on the embankment between the freeway and an on-ramp.

She called me to come and get them from off the side of the freeway after passers-by, a policeman, and a tow truck driver finally removed her car from the tree. But, she was using the tow truck driver's phone, because he had locked her keys in the car and couldn't get the doors open.

Eventually, he did get the car unlocked, the car was drivable, and she and the children continued their drive to our house. Arriving quite shaken, as I'm sure you can understand.

I just wanted to hug them all very, very close. For a long time. Repeatedly.

Except for a few scratches on the bumper, a torn heat-shield, and a sore neck for a day, they are no worse for the experience. But, it could have so easily been so different.

If she had been in a different lane and swerved into traffic; if the merging car had actually hit her car; if she had collided with the guardrail; if the lone tree hadn't been there to prevent her from going into traffic on the on-ramp; if, if, if...

Psalm 4:8 says,
"In peace I will both lie down and sleep,
for You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety."

Intense experiences like this help us to realize just how much God, each and every day, watches over and protects His people. Every time we lay safely in our beds at night, or arrive safely at our destination, or live another day with any measure of health and happiness, it is a gift from His good hand.

So, this week, look for those times where you might otherwise overlook His Providence in keeping you safe. In the routine of life, we expect things to go on as they always have in the past, forgetting all to often to thank Him for that routine, that ordinary day. Which isn't so ordinary at all...

If you are following along with Pam and me this year, please stop by the forum and join in the conversation. We love seeing all your wonderful layouts posted in the gallery, too. Here is a link for the download; I hope you enjoy using it.

May God bless and keep you.

Inspired by Challenge hosted by Cinda

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. Genesis 8:22 (NIV)

It's winter in my part of the world. The sky is grey, the trees are grey and the ground is covered in snow. It's freezing and I feel like winter will never cease. I'm not feeling very inspired about much of anything these days!

For this edition of my "Inspired By" challenge, I would like for you to show me that your layout can be inspiring while being surrounded by grey and white! That's right, I want you to use just shades of grey and white for your layout (metallics like silver and pewter can be used too). It's up to you whether or not you use black & white photos.

Be sure to share your layout in the Faith Sisters gallery and in the forum.

Next week I am releasing a kit that is bursting with green! It's called Savage Gardens. I have been AMAZED with the layouts my creative team have made with it! Everyone who participates in this edition of my "Inspired By" challenge by the end of January will receive a coupon to save 35 percent off of Savage Gardens!

I can't wait to be inspired by your layouts!

My Lifetime Story RE-RUN: Challenge 4 - My Parents

Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Page so you don't miss any of our videos!

Complete a layout about each of your parents. A collage of your parents of photos throughout the years (childhood to adult) would be a great place to start!

Do you know any stories about their childhood?

When and where were they born? Where did they grow? List your mothers maiden name.

Tell about their family (how many children)

What do you know about their values, philosophy, and religious beliefs?

What kind of work did they do?

What memories do you have of them throughout your life?

What important things have you learned from each of your parents?

Other topics for continued layouts about your parents:
How did they meet?
What details do you know about their dating and wedding?
What were their hobbies or traditions?

Be sure to follow this challenge in our forum and post your page in our gallery under the appropriate category! If you are a digital scrapbooker, be sure to find some great products in our shop to help you with your project!

Providence 365, Week 4 Enjoy!

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon wrote "A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see from the hand of God" (NIV,2010)

What is satisfaction? The dictionary defines satisfaction as:
1. a. The fulfillment or gratification of a desire, need, or appetite.
b. Pleasure or contentment derived from such gratification.
c. A source or means of gratification.

and what is gratification? Pleasure, happiness, delight, gladness, enjoyment!

When you receive His gifts with gratitude, you cannot help but be joyful. All that we do and all that we have comes from Him. Our life is meaningless without God. Yet knowing that He is with us always, we can enjoy His bountiful blessings. His hand is present in every aspect of our day. We are His children. He wants us to enjoy everything He provides.

Your challenge this week is to reflect on an aspect of your daily life that seems mundane or that perhaps you simply go through the motions. Maybe it is an area of your life where you struggle or an issue that you simply cannot reconcile. Compare that with a part of your life where you are outwardly joyous and give thanks to our Lord. How are they similar? How are they different? What changes can you make to begin enjoying everything He blesses you with? How can you turn it around and find the joy that He wants to to have - and enjoy!

Now create a layout that helps you express your gratitude; your happiness; your pleasure in His blessings -the blessings He provides every day. Celebrate and rejoice. Enjoy! Here is WordArt to get you started.
Wishing you an awesome week in the Lord. I pray you rejoice and celebrate all of His blessings in your life.
