Susan, please tell us a little about yourself.
First of all, I’m a daughter of the King! I’m also a stay at home wife and mom. My husband and I have been married since 1990 and we have 2 beautiful boys, Colt and Riley. Our boys are 10 years apart, so we’re living through both the teenager and preschool stages! We live on a farm in Central Texas where we raise organic veggies and grass fed chickens. We’ve been homeschooling since 2005 and love it! The kids/house/farm keep me busy, but when I can, I like to crochet, knit, sew and scrapbook.
Susan, what are some of the life lessons that scrapbooking has taught you?
Honestly, scrapbooking has taught me SO much about my family. It's caused me to take a more than superficial look and our feelings, or lives and our hopes and dreams. To tell a story for future generations.
When did you start digital scrapbooking, designing and what made you get into it?
I've been scrapbooking for over 25 years, I started when I was around 10 years old, after my Nanny showed me her scrapbooks she made when she was in high school. I was hooked ever since!
When my oldest son was 5 (1998), I started back up scrapbooking when I discovered all the new and creative things that had come on the market. I once again became obsessed with preserving my memories in this artistic medium. I was first introduced to digital scrapbooking in 2003, by my friend Nikki Painter.
I had been designing my own web graphics for personal use and for sale for a while and this was just a natural next step. What better than to combine 2 of my favorite hobbies, graphic design and scrapbooking!
As of today, I am totally digital and haven't looked back! It was around this same time that I started designing my own digiscrap designs for my own use. Usually when I couldn't find just what I was looking for. I had several people ask for my designs and I at first started offering them for free, sometime around 2005. Again, at Nikki's urging I applied for my first shop at Elemental Scraps. From then on, I was totally hooked in designing kits for sale.
I currently sell here at Faith Sisters.
What inspires you to create your designs?
I am inspired most often by the things around me. It can simply be a color scheme I see on some piece of clothing, to an emotion or train of thought that's on my own mind and is applying to my life at the moment.
Can you share your favorite scrapbooking or design tip with our Faith Sisters?
Never forget to save you page periodically...lol! My computer is really old and slow and sometimes crashes in the middle of a design causing me to lose everything. I also think you should never be afraid to play around with color. You can come up with such beautiful layouts when you use an unexpected color.
How do you find the time to do so many wonderful designs?
I sneak time in whenever I can. We have such a busy life here and it can sometime make it hard to find time. I've found that I work best when I plan time in my schedule each day to design.
What is your favorite scripture verse?
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
~ Philippians 4:8
