Designer Challenge Thursday - Make a Card

Hello folks, my name is Angela and I'm one of the new designers at Faith Sisters - Toucan Scraps. As well as scrapbooking I love to make cards and other projects. I often mix and match digital scrapbooking and paper crafting together, we call this hybrid crafting.

For my challenge this week I'd like to invite you to create a card. You could use your paper crafting stash and scraps, make one digitally or even go hybrid. Everyone taking part will get a little gift from me. Post your card to the FaithSisters Gallery and either let me know in the comments on this blog post or on the Designer challenge thread on FaithSisters Forum where to find your card. Challenge closing date for the participation gift is Wed 6th Oct.

I have a little tutorial here for those of you new to the idea of making cards using digital scrapbooking. I used my new Kicking Leaves kit to make this card.

Tutorial
Set-up the page in your software to the size of card stock you are printing on. I've set mine to metric A5. Set the page to landscape.
Put a guideline along the vertical centre line - where the fold line will be. (If your software doesn't support guidelines then draw a vertical line in the top layer.)

Most printers have a margin where it doesn't print anything. check your printer settings and place guidelines at the margin points (.6 cm for me).

To keep the page balanced, place a margin line to the right of the centre line.

Choose your background paper. Place it on the page and crop to fit inside your guidelines.

Crop another piece of digi paper to a rectangle on the next layer. Add a small drop shadow.

Add an image or photo or elements cluster on the next layer. Add a small drop shadow.

Crop a piece of plain paper to a small rectangle/title block shape (or use a journaling tag/strip). Place it below the image and add a small drop shadow.
Add a greeting on top of the title block in a pretty font and/or alphas (I used One Stroke Script LET). I picked the colour from the boy's trousers and used that to colour my font.

Using the same font, but smaller, type your made by and credits details at the bottom of the left hand side of the page (this will be the back). I like to add a small image there too as a finishing touch.

Print
Score and fold along the centre fold line

Have fun, can't wait to see your cards.

And I have this photo card quickpage as a participation gift. So lets see those cards.

Designer's Challenge Thursday: Cover Challenge

Hi! I’m Lisa of LATZ designs and I am so excited to be running my first ever challenge here at Faith Sisters. I love music and I’ve always got a song in my head when I wake up in the morning. It’s often how I start my prayers too. So it seemed only natural to me that I look to Christian music covers for my Designer’s Challenge Thursday with a “Cover Challenge” this week.
My inspiration comes from this Mercy Me cover.
It’s a simple design with simple elements, yet it “spoke” to me on many levels. So for your challenge, should you choose to accept it is this: Create a layout from something that inspires you about this cover.
Does the main element, the heart inspire you? I’ve created a FREEBIE heart balloon that is available in my shop.

Cover Challenge 09.23.10 Freebie
Does the silhouetted figure get the creative ideas going? You can make your own or use these fantastic silhouette brushes from Obsidian Dawn HERE.
How about the title? I was struck by the word “generous”. It got me thinking about how we can afford to be generous because God has given us everything. There are many wonderful verses about being generous and generosity. Maybe one of these speaks to you this week:
  • You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11)
  • Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (Det 15:10)
  • Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. (Psalms 112:5)
  • A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25)
  • If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)
Here's what I created:

I used the heart balloon freebie, a silhouette of my youngest daughter because she has the gift of generosity that I am learning from and the verse from 2 Corinthians that reminds me of just how "rich" I really am. Where will this challenge take you? I'd love to see. Post your layouts HERE. Then let us know about it in the Forum.

My Lifetime Story Challenge 38 - Politics and Pride

Politics may be a controversial topic, but this is the time to share your views, political party and your pride for your country!

For this challenge we will all have to agree to disagree, because as stated above, politics is a very controversial topic! Please keep in mind that these pages are for YOUR album. We will each have differing opinions and views. Faithsisters is not promoting any particular stance on politics. This challenge is for you to record your political views, therefore some of the pages that you see as examples here at Faithsisters may not match your views. Please do not be offended by the views of others. This is for their own personal albums too, they are just sharing their layouts as examples for this challenge.

Be sure to follow this challenge in our forum and post your page in our gallery under the appropriate category! If you are a digital scrapbooker, be sure to find some great products in our shop to help you with your project!
